Danielle Scarlett, BA
Recreation Therapist

Danielle is a Recreation Therapist as well as the CEO and founder of Flow recreation therapy & consulting.

Danielle Scarlett has been a recreation therapist in the field for 10 years. She has vast experience working with children, youth and young adults living with various disabilities, diagnoses and difficult life circumstances (trauma, grief & bereavement) as well as in pediatric palliative care. Danielle has a passion for using recreation and play as a modality for helping children, and young adults reach their goals and full potential. Danielle graduated from Concordia University in 2015 with a Bachelor of Applied Human Sciences with a specialization in therapeutic recreation. Alongside being hands-on with her clients through her private practice, Danielle is also a faculty member at Algonquin College where she has taught for the last 3 years in the school of applied arts and technology in the Therapeutic Recreation Graduate Certificate program. When Danielle is not working with clients and groups wearing her recreation therapist hat she enjoys being in nature and spending time with son (Colter) and her two dogs (Harley & Tango). She loves exercising, spending time with friends and family, and exploring nearby coffee shops.

Amanda Legault, BA
Recreation Therapist

Amanda Legault is a dedicated Recreation Therapist based in Ottawa, ON, with a background in cognitive science and a fervent commitment to improving equity and accessibility in our community. Amanda’s passion for working with children shines through her recent work placement at CHEO, where she made significant strides in enhancing the lives of young patients.

With personal and professional experience as both a parent to a high needs child and an educator in the public school board, Amanda brings a unique perspective to her practice. She excels in communicating with both non-speaking and verbal children, employing innovative methods to foster connection and understanding.

Amanda’s expertise includes using different modalities to improve regulation, sensory integration, leisure education (individual recreation plans), and social-emotional development. Her holistic, strengths-based approach ensures that each child she works with receives tailored support to thrive in their environment. Amanda’s dedication to her field and her flexible and compassionate nature make her an invaluable asset to the community.

Ashley Hilliard

Recreation Therapist

Ashley has over 14 years of experience working in Therapeutic Recreation in the Ottawa area. Ashley has worked primarily with children and youth with disabilities including autism and those with develop disabilities and physical disabilities. Ashley has a passion for ensuring that children with various disabilities are included in their community and that recreation and leisure activities can be adapted to meet their needs.

Ashley is a graduate of the Georgian College Post Graduate program in Therapeutic Recreation. Ashley is currently faculty in Therapeutic Recreation Post Graduate program at Algonquin College and thoroughly enjoys the time she spends teaching students in the program.

In her Leisure time Ashley enjoys traveling, spending time with her husband, son, and cats, and being a Girl Guide leader.

Melanie Somers, BA, SSW, TRO, CYT

Recreation Therapist

Melanie’s playful nature and creative spirit shine through in her work as a Recreation Therapist.

Her passion for well-being and the Arts are ingrained in what she offers.

As a certified Yoga instructor, she loves to bring the Yoga practice to children and seniors of all ages and abilities.

A musical note is never far from her reach, and she believes in the power of therapeutic music to find your spark.

Melanie has been working in the social work field for over 25 years, supporting individuals with trauma, mental health and addictions.

Her focus is on helping her clients navigate a better life for themselves using a client centered, strengths-based approach. 

The years of experience in social work, make her a great intuitive listener and blend well with Therapeutic Recreation.

To spark her own joy, you can find her in nature, gardening, reading a good book, creating delicious food to share, or singing with her husband in one of their bands.
